QR Code Extension for Product Pages

If you have a store, be it a web-store or a brick and mortar store, you need to get as many customers to look at your products and the information about them that you can.

A QR Code is a type of barcode that can be scanned by a smart phone or tablet PC. QR Codes can contain all sorts of information, but they are basically text.

People and companies are putting QR Codes on all types of things; product packaging, business cards, print catalogs and newspapers.  All of these things allow the real world to be clickable just like the web with the use of a smart phone.

A URL, or link to a web page, is also just text. And that is what this Magento extension does. It creates a QR Code image for each item in your catalog.

You can then use this image in a promotional video, commercial, catalog, flyer, or many other things.  Making your product flyers, print catalogs and other things clickable to bring customers and potential customers back to your webstore to find more information and the ability to continue their shopping experience.

Here is how it works:

Installation is simple.  Extract the zip file and drop the design and code directories into the app folder of your Magento install.  The QR Code extension has default settings so that you don't have to configure anything to start using it.  (You might want to refresh the Magento cache if you don't see the new tab.)

After installation, go to the product catalog in the Magento Admin Panel.  Click on a product and look of a new Tab on the left called QR Code. 

Selecting this tab will show you a QR Code image for the url of the product.  You can save that image.  You will also see the HTML code to embed the image in another document or web page.  

And its just that simple to install and use.

If you want to change the size of the images in the catalog, there is a configuration option in system configuration that will let you set the size of the images.
